I was thrilled to have the opportunity to collaborate with my friend, Seija Hurskainen, on writing a poem about her four New York City photos that she purchased at a recent art show of mine on Marco Island, Florida. I love the way that she displayed the images and that she will always have her corner of the city in her island home. Thank you Seija for sharing your thoughts.
"My New York City Corner"
As I look at the photos of my beloved New York City displayed in my corner
I'm reminded of my forty years as a resident and an explorer
I can see the building in the Manhattan skyline where I worked tirelessly to pay my way
And can remember the views of the Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan Bridge and Chrysler Building on any given day
The horror of 9/11 broke the city's heart and the two towers are no longer
But we survived the attacks and came out even stronger
I've met all walks of life
Some lifelong friends, and some full of strife
The images in my corner are love letters to the city that I cherish
There is life to live and dreams to fulfill
That's why I love Manhattan and always will
